Schaap

Google sent someone to this site who was asking for the
meaning of the Dutch name "Schaap"
"Schaap" means "sheep" (singular) in English.
As for pronunciation, the "sch" sound is very difficult to pronounce for most foreigners, as a fairly hard G (as in "grok") immediately follows a sharp S (as in "sharp"), while the double "aa" is long ("aah"), concluded with a shortish P (as in the English "chap").

No doubt there are many english speakers who, upon first seeing the word "schaap", would pronounce it "scape". If they were to speak your name, it would come out as "Frank Scape" or "Frankscape". Like landscape, or cityscape, or mindscape.... I suppose a "frankscape" would be a representation of what it is like to be *you*: a snapshot of frank-ness.

Many English speakers actually manage something like "Shaahp" which I think sounds nicer than "Scape."
I like "frankscape" very much though :-)

Hmm... seeing it like that, makes me realize you could also read that as "Frank's Cape," which would be a nice place to build a house I guess, unless that makes you see me flying around like Superman, with a cape on my shoulders :-)

Do you mean to say that your name SHOULD be pronounced Sh-g-ah-p? And I thought I was doing so well with Shaahp... ;)

Hey Jill, make it "Ss-g-h-aah-p" and you're there :)

Since MT-Blacklist inexplicably stopped working I had no other recourse than close comments and trackbacks to stop the spam. I've been meaning to correct this for quite a while, but life got in the way... in a good way I should add.
